What Is TMJ?

TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint, the joint that connects your jaw to the rest of your skull. When people talk about “having TMJ,” they’re usually referring to TMJ dysfunction, a broad term for pain, tension, or movement issues in the jaw and the muscles that control it. Most TMJ-related discomfort is actually caused by the surrounding muscles, like the masseter and temporalis, becoming overactive, tight, or imbalanced.
That’s what our TMJ treatments focus on: calming and retraining those muscles to bring meaningful relief without surgery or long recovery.

Botox is a well-established treatment for TMJ-related muscle tension. When injected into the masseter muscle, Botox temporarily relaxes the muscle, reducing the intensity of clenching and grinding and easing the associated pain and pressure. Many patients also notice a subtle slimming effect along the jawline as the masseter softens over time.
  • Session length: 15 to 30 minutes
  • Downtime: Minimal, with brief mild soreness or bruising possible at injection sites

Emface for TMJ

Rather than relaxing the muscles with medication, Emface works to retrain them, helping restore healthier muscle balance and coordination.
  • Session length: Approximately 20 minutes of hands-free treatment
  • Protocol: Typically 4 to 8 sessions, once per week, depending on your goals and symptoms

  • Results: Most patients notice changes after 2 to 3 sessions, with continued improvement over the following 3 months as muscle function is retrained
